Vaccines are an effective way to protect your pet against harmful diseases.
Puppies are more likely to contract serious but preventable diseases if they are unvaccinated. It’s important to vaccinate your puppy as early as possible to protect them and ensure they are as healthy as possible. Dogs still need to get vaccinated as they get older, but less often than puppies. It is important to discuss what vaccines best suit your pup’s needs. Call our team at 604-824-5848 to schedule your puppy’s first visit or your dog’s yearly vaccines.
Puppies receive their first set of vaccines starting in their first few weeks of life until they are 6 months old. After this, they receive booster vaccines a year later. Your puppy will be vaccinated against rabies, canine distemper (respiratory, digestive and nervous system disease), parvovirus (digestive disease) and hepatitis as well as other non-core vaccines depending on whether or not they are at risk.
Adult dogs should be vaccinated yearly against rabies, distemper and parvovirus. Senior dogs might need an examination twice a year to determine which vaccinations they need. Depending on your dog’s risk, they might also be recommended to get the bordetella (kennel cough), leptospirosis and Lyme disease vaccines.
The health risks of vaccines for pets is relatively low. Vaccines undergo a rigorous process of testing before they are approved for your canine friend.
Though some vaccines might not provide full immunity against diseases, they reduce the severity of symptoms. Vaccination is the best way to protect your pet against harmful and life-threatening diseases. If you would like more information on vaccines, please connect with our veterinarians.
